Greatest Link of the week!

Darrell over at www.alphatrilogy.com wins my vote for greatest link of the day! His writing is informative, educational and well written. His website coloring is a bit hard to read but the site is so well laid out and the content so good that I will be reading and checking his site on a very regular basis! I enjoyed his posts about his Alaska Bear hunt and was glad to see that he brought his son on the adventure with him! I look forward to chatting with him soon.

Craig from Outdoor U dropped me a note. I had seen his blog a month or so ago and had added it to my bookmarks but life gets busy and away from you sometimes. This blog is a great little blog filled with small tidbits that can teach you little things one day at a time.

I am going to add this to the blogroll on the side...

Great little blog!

Head on over to Hunt Smart Think Safety and check out their new product the gun slinger! It looks fantastic and I always get a bit nervous tying the string to my sling and knowing I will be bringing the gun up 20 feet to my stand! Good blog and looks to be a good product! I am looking forward to getting my hands on one and testing it out on my gun and bow.

The Outdoor Blogosphere Version 3

Desert Rat is planning his fall hunting season and his blog is fantastic. If you want to know information about Arizona and hunting in the South West this is definitely your best blog to read!

Hunting in America looks like it could be a really great blog and with some work and effort. The posts are interesting and it is still worth checking out with hope that it grows into something great.

David from Sparta, TN has a great little blog punctuated with some great writing straight from the heart on Hunting Wild Game/A way of Life! I really like reading what he has to offer and his advise is golden. His second blog Hunting Memories of the Past is absolutely worth reading as well.

East Coast Hunting and Outdoors focuses on New Jersey hunting with some great writing and pictures galore. Check them out and look at the nice tom they took on April 18th.

Moose Droppings is another one of the Skinny Moose Media Blogs and the site is great with some great pictures of Elk on the east coast. As a strong supporter of elk on the east coast it is good to keep up with this blog.

Still more to come.......

The Outdoor Blogosphere Version 2

The Idaho Fishin Times Blog is a great read with some good pictures of some really great pictures. I spent a couple of years cruising by the St. Joe River and never got a chance to actually drop a fly line in that river. I used to drool over some of those stream pockets and wish I could get three good hours of time on that stream. Someday I will get the chance to fish some of those steams and tributaries.

Heartland Outdoorsman has some great blogs and a great little forum going on over at their site! I really enjoy flipping through the forums and seeing what the readers have had to say. They have a bloggers network going on and are trying to make a business of it! I wish them luck and hope they keep up the great work.

Missouri Sports and Outdooors
has a nice little blog that covers a bit more then hunting and fishing but its a great read none the less. I killed my first turkey near Festus, MO on a friends farm called appropriately THE WILDERNESS. I chased that bird up and down over 5 hills and close to a mile and half. He would be on the top of one hill and then in the bottoms and then on top of the hill and then in the bottoms.. finally I gave up and gave a long cutting sequence and took a break... He came running in and I dropped him at 20 yards. A great bird with a great friend on a great farm.... Cant wait to get back there!

Riding in the Backcountry
is a great read on all things horses and mules. Russ Barnett is based out of Montana and owns an Outfitters Supply Company in Columbia Falls. His knowledge of horses and mules is excellent and his writing is topnotch.

More to come in Version 3.......

The Outdoor Blogosphere Version 1

If you are anything like me, you have one or two sites that you visit each and every day no matter what happens in your busy day. To be perfectly honest, I have 20-30 that I visit each and every day to look for new tidbits of information to bring to my faithful readers and to make myself richer for the experience.

First stop is Bill MacFarland at HuntInfo and MacFarland Adventures.
Bill is getting a ton of posts up this week including a great post about the Pennsylvania Elk Tags going on sale this week. Every year the Pennsylvania Game Commission puts up some tags on a lottery basis and the lucky winners of this lottery get a chance to take a cow or bull in Pennsylvania. If you are lucky enough to get drawn(and it takes a lot of luck) you have the chance at taking a monster bull. Pennsylvania has the right mix of nutrients in the soil, great food sources and a great genetic herd. Pennsylvania has done an amazing job at managing their herd of elk and if you get a chance go visit because they are absolutely MAGNIFICENT animals. The Pennsylvania RMEF is one of the strongest in the country and the state of Pennsylvania is going to create an Elk Country Visitors Center in Pennsylvania that will house one of the Budweisers Clydesdale horses that was just purchased by an amazing group of people. The link to purchase an opportunity for the tag in Pennsylvania is here: Pennsylvania Elk Drawing.

I invested my $10.00 today and I recommend that you get online and get in on this fantastic opportunity!

Rex over at the Deer Camp Blog has a great post about Fred Bear and his father hunting together in Mississippi and an amazing photo of Fred Bear with a lion that he took with his bow! Fred Bear and Jack O'Connor are personal hero's of mine!

Othmar of Outdoors with Othmar Vohringer has a great little story of a young Shane and his first turkey. I still remember my first turkey, My first duck, my first hunt.... like they were yesterday! Go on over and read his blog and buy one of his hats! He is a celebrity with his own hats!

I always head over to the Outdoor Pressroom that has all the outdoor news Hand-Picked and Washed for review! They put up 5-10 stories a day and it is always interesting articles from around the country! Of course they missed a great story here in Fredericksburg about our local NWTF banquet which I was hoping he would get up! No hard feeling though!

Terrier Man
just interests the heck out of me and keeps me thinking and I like reading things that make me think. I am hoping he is going to invite me out someday to watch him work those terriers of his. He lives close!

The team over at Bright Ideas Outdoors has shared some really great stories and personal insight in the past week and again a really good small moment of wonder brought to us by an artist and a dead tree. I like that this artist is making his small mark on the world. I hope the team brings us every new painting throughout the year! Its good to know their are other VA bloggers out there!

North Dakota's Outdoors and Beyond has Doug Leier bringing us great news from the upper Midwest and beyond including some great information Paddle Fish(Now I have to go catch one, I added it to my list) and fishing updates. Next year I will be making a trip to try out this paddlefishing thing!

There are more that I view each and every day but I will have to include those on the next go around. Version 2

Conservation Force linked here, What an Honor!

I am honored to have been linked by this fantastic conservation organization! These people are making a difference for hunters worldwide by their hard work! They have fantastic sources of information and are a valuable resource for anyone interested in the conservation of our wildlife. If there was a hall of fame for Wildlife Conservationists all of the members on this board(past and present) would be included in it! Please donate to them and help them continue to do the amazing things they are doing!

Terrier Man blogs his love of dogs and the outdoors

I just spent the last half hour taking a look over Terrierman's Blog. What a treat! I never knew that in modern day people still took Terriers out to hunt for small game! I have never done this kind of hunting and in fact never even really thought about it, but after reading through this blog, I would be absolutely excited to spend a day out walking around in nature and getting to see this group of Terriers chase after small game and such! It looks like Patrick has a great view on life and a fun little habit!

Check out his blog and feel his love for nature and his animals!

Backpack Hunting for Sheep

Backpack Hunting For Sheep

Backpack hunting for sheep is a serious hunt. It’s physically and mentally demanding. You need to be able to pack at least 40-50 pounds on your back going in. And If you are lucky enough to take a sheep you are coming back out with closer to 100+ pounds worth of Gear, Meat, Horns & Cape. So you don’t want to be packing a lot of excess or heavy gear.

Read More at: BC HUNTING BLOG

I read this blog with some great interest. Someday I want to get out and go sheep hunting and this post was fascinating to me. I am jealous that I am no longer 25 and out of shape at 37. I am jealous that it is going to take me years of saving to afford the possibility of sheep hunting. I know the reality is that I will be well into my 40's before I get drawn but I will get to experience the thrill of chasing rams. Either way I think it is about time I start looking for a better pack and finding a way to make time to work out!
