Bear in a tree makes for good Easter break story
STERLINGTON, LA — Ten-year-old friends Drake Harp and Britt Wade didn't expect to spend their Easter break putting up an admission sign inviting passers-by into Britt's front yard for the bargain price of $2.
But that was before Drake spotted a black bear in a tree in his friend's front yard Friday.
"I was at work and my wife called me and said, 'You've got to come home, there's a big bear in the front yard,'" Britt's father, Ron Wade, said with amusement.
The 180-pound bear likely wandered onto the Wades' property late Thursday night then sought refuge from the barking dogs. She climbed up the tree and stayed there, occasionally yawning or stretching her legs and intently watching the small crowd gathered below.
